I've been wanting to make a Card in a Box for a while now and decided to try it out for a special friend's birthday.
My starting point was the patterned paper, "Black & White Diamonds" by Canvas Corp. All the dies are from My Favorite Things: the "happy birthday" die, the "Balloons STAX" and the You Rock from "Blueprints 11." I used shrinky dink instead of acetate for mounting the stars and balloons.

Retirement Card
My former boss is retiring. I won't be able to make it to his dinner, so I wanted to be sure to make him a card. I found this nice saying on a stamp and decided to work from there.
The stamped sentiment is American Art Stamp's "Take Time to Savor." The shaped die is two sizes of Fancy Tags by Sizzix.

Halloween Cards
I decided to make just a few Halloween cards, and thought I'd use My Favorite Things' "Spooky Scene" die set along with a grassy border. It was scary how easily it came together :)
I made the first one for my two grand nephews. My niece liked it so much, she used it as one of her Halloween decorations on her mantelpiece.

I then decided to change the orientation, but basically make the same card.

Autumn Birthday
A good friend has a birthday soon. Since she LOVES autumn, I tried to go for an autumnal look.
On the outside, I used stamps and dies from Your Next Stamp's "Piles of Smiles" set.
On the inside, the squirrel is also from Your Next Stamp's "Piles of Smiles" set. The sentiment is from My Favorite Things' "LJD Birthday Greetings," and the die cut leaves are from Lawn Fawn "Stitched Leaves." The squirrel is colored with the following Copic markers: E30, E31, E35, E37 & E55.

September Birthdays
My former boss and his wife have birthdays just two days apart, so this year I "cheated" and sent one card for the two of them.
They have an adorable dog, so I wanted to use this cute doggie die. I used My Creative Time's "Stitched Surprise Pop-Out Card" die. The dog, dog house and fence are all from My Creative Time's "Loyal Friends" set.

August Birthday
A friend of mine has a birthday at the end of this month, and I'm pretty sure she'd be disappointed if she didn't receive a hand-made card from me. Hopefully, this will arrive on time, but at least it is hand-made.
On the front of the card, I used a single die cut: Poppystamps' "Happy Birthday Background." What a great way to make a statement quickly.
On the inside, I used the dog image and sentiment from Simon Says Stamp's "Cat and Dog Pawsome" stamp and die set.

July Birthday Cards
Two of my cousins have birthdays this month. I made similar cards for them.
These are pretty straightforward. I used Tim Holtz's "Drapery" embossing folder, then added a stick-on flower to the center.
I also had one "belated" card for July:
I used My Creative Time's "Stitched Surprise Pop-Out Card" die with some double-sided paper. The little snail is from Your Next Stamp's "Smiley Happy Critter Crew Set Four."

Wedding Card
A friend asked me to make a wedding card for her grandson's special day, and I knew exactly which new die cut I wanted to use.
I started with Cream Shimmer cardstock by Papertrey Ink. I die cut it using Taylored Expressions' "Mr. & Mrs. Cutting Plate," backed it with another larger piece of the Cream Shimmer, then added some faux pearls.
On the inside, I continued with the Cream Shimmer die cutting it with Spellbinders' Elegant Labels 4. The sentiment is from My Favorite Things' "Together Forever" stamp set.

Nephew Nate's Birthday
This has definitely NOT been my year for card making. This is only the second card I've made all year - oh well. This is for my niece's older son:
I used a new die cut from My Creative Time - "Surprise Pop-Out Card Die." The sentiment and monster image are both from Your Next Stamp's "Silly Monsters" stamp set.
The center section flips over to reveal a pocket made with My Creative Time's "Stitched Gift Card Pocket Die, and with another monster stamp. A very fun and easy card to make.

First card for 2014
Well, this January seemed particularly busy, and I managed to make NO cards for any of my January birthday people - sorry! So, here is my first card of the year, and it's for a February birthday - my niece's younger son's.
On the exterior, I used Taylored Expressions "Sack-It - Puppy" dies. I ended up cutting out all the piece in white, then coloring them with Copic markers.
On the interior, I used the Sizzix Scallop Circle 3-D as the pop-up base. I used a Spellbinders Oval die to cut out the sentiment which is "Dog-Gone Birthday" from Penny Black.
